Over 100 fans made the trip down to Sussex on Tuesday night and after 10 attempts, Wealdstone now have one win on the league table.

Hopefully the victory will improve confidence within the team as they look to work their way back up the table.

After losing 2-1 to Bath at home, confidence and fan support was at an all-time low, but the manager Gordon Bartlett made some dramatic changes in order to combat the slump. One goal from Luke Pidgen was enough to give Wealdstone a win against Whitehawk – a goal which will hopefully kick start the season.

Fans will be hoping for another win, when Wealdstone play St Albans on Saturday a team sitting ninth in the table. The manager stills seems to be tinkering with the squad as he looks to take the side off the bottom of the table and we may well see a few more additions within the next week as he looks to turn things around.

The clash with St Albans will see a return for several ex players to Grosvenor Vale, such as Lee Chappel and their joint manager Jimmy Gray, but The Stones will not want to be too welcoming as the team looks to claim the first home win of the season.

With it being September they are still 30 games to go in the league and if the manager can find a striker who can score 20 goals or more, Wealdstone fans will have a far more positive outlook going forward .

Trying to find one of those clinical forwards costs money but Gordon Bartlett has a knack of finding good and hungry players.

Releasing Tom Collins, a striker who had failed to impress in pre-season and the first few games of the league season looks like an inspired choice by the manager after this win and letting Toby little return to Chesham on loan allows him the opportunity to further freshen up the squad.

If we are going to survive in the conference south we need players with quality and the ability to fight for 90 minutes. There is also the option of signing a player on loan as this has been successful in past years with players such as Britt Assombalonga, who currently hitting the net regularly for Nottingham Forest. It may be worth exploring the Watford link for a hungry young forward.

With the current predicament that the club are in, what is needed is support from the terrace and hopefully with this win and some new signings the supporters can put all their energy into getting behind the team.

As I’ve written about in previous articles, the last few years have been full of excitement and so far this season, that has been largely failing on the field.

Trying different formations and styles during games annoyed a number of fans and the lack of width since the departure of Tom Pett in the summer has yet to be rectified.

Surely a wide player must be on the shopping list for the manager to make sure that the team scores more goals from the wide positions.

There appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for Stones fans.

Roll on Saturday.
