It has been a week of highs and lows with a trio of new signings before we were brought back to normality on Saturday, being denied an FA Cup win against Concord Rangers thanks to a 96th-minute equaliser and then beaten in 2-0 in the replay on Tuesday.

Wealdstone have signed ex-Leeds United and Notts County striker Enoch Showumni – the second most high-profile striker to sign for a Conference South side after former QPR striker DJ Campbell joined Maidenhead United.

Enoch has never been a prolific striker during his time in the Football League but he is a team player and, at this level, will hopefully deliver goals and assists to help us off the bottom.

Judging from the reaction on social media alone, this seems to be a good decision by the club, with fans hopeful that the Stones can turn a corner once Showumni is match fit.

The club have also signed Shaun Lucien and Daniel Brown, which adds some more quality and depth to the squad as we look to pull away from the relegation zone.

With the squad list now looking quite full, it remains to be seen whether Gordon Bartlett will let some players move on or if he is happy to carry a large roster of players.

Either way, given last month’s results, he has been forced to change things as we have taken just seven points from the opening 11 matches.

With the recent signings on board I believe the team will now move out of relegation zone and reach the mid-table position that was expected in pre-season.

Once the new players have gelled together, I believe that the morale of the club, along with the results, will improve. Lucien and Brown might not be big-name signings like Showumni but they are experinced midfielders who will provide new options for the manager to choose from.

Lucien is a wide player who is known to be good from set pieces, as he proved during his time at our former Ryman League rivals Harrow Borough.

While his history may not endear him to the fans, his pace, skill and eye for goal will hopefully help to fill the gap out wide since the club lost both Tom Pett and Glen Little in the summer.

It will be interesting to see how much they can influence games between now and the end of the year and whether the manager has a few more transfer deals in mind.

While the team performance looked much better in the cup last weekend, ultimately the team and the fans were left empty-handed.

Positives can be taken from the team performance for the first 95 minutes but we failed to close out the game – something the team had no problem doing last season but has seriously struggled to do this time round.

A 1-0 win last Saturday could have been a turning point. Now we face a difficult match on today (Saturday) when we visit Weston-super-Mare.

There is only so much time that the fans will back the club and the manager before they lose faith.

I only hope that, with the new signings, the team can put a run of wins together and move off the bottom.
