From the despair of a week ago, the tables have now been turned for Wealdstone.

After watching a side with no cohesion and wondering when I would get to experience that winning feeling again, the last two matches has seen the Stones pick up four points moving off the bottom of the table and up to 18th in the league.

Winning away on last Saturday in the West Country at Weston-super-Mare felt like winning the league for fans after waiting that long for a win.

The game against Weston was good as it saw a return to a passing game along with wide players running at the defenders something the club excelled at in previous years. Why the manager Gordon Bartlett decided to change this up for the first 10 games or so of the season is beyond me, or if he has listened to the terraces and the football the fans like seeing but it has certainly paid dividends on the pitch.

Having been at the match against Havant on Monday, you could hear the support of the crowd as the wide players constantly ran at the defence and caused problem after problem.

The confidence that was lacking earlier in the season has returned and the attacking players now seem to be able to get those balls in those dangerous areas.

The new players such as Shaun Lucien caused problems for the oppositions in both games, something which had been lacking and if Shaun can produce this game after game there should be no problem with the club reaching mid table this year.

Even the defence which had looked shaky now looks hard to beat and the new left back Ryan Watts has been one reason for this.

The Stones had Havant on the rocks for most of the match, creating chance after chance. Several times my jaw nearly dropped to the floor at the amazing play the team were constructing in stark contrast to recent weeks.

Maybe a few ex-players turning up on Monday such as Tom Pett and Alan Massey now of Stevenage and Braintree respectively helped the players or gave them some advice, we shall never know.

Maybe everything has just started to click, with the right players, correct formation or maybe it’s just the opposition allowing Wealdstone to play. I expected Havant to be a bigger test, but the team played very poorly and were lucky to score two goals against us.

With games coming up against Basingstoke Town and Chelmsford City, if the team keep playing like they are now, I can’t see any reason why they can’t get six points. With players reaching full fitness such as Enoch Showunmi, the team can only get better, it’s just a shame the season doesn’t start in October!
