Another week and another late goal to silence Wealdstone’s dreams of moving up the table last weekend but hopefully this weekend away at Boreham Wood things can change.

Sitting third from bottom is better than a month ago, but a constant feature of this season has been leaking late goals, which has prevented the Stones from sitting in mid-table or higher.

With the clocks having gone back and the winter setting in, the form of Wealdstone will have to change if they wish to stay in this division.

With this, it got me thinking about three non league players I would like Wealdstone to sign if money wasn’t an issue.

We shall start at the back for the first player who is currently playing for Welling United named Loui Fazakerley, who started off his career with Fulham over 10 years ago.

Fazakerley started off in midfield but in recent years has been deployed in defence by Welling player/manager Jamie Day. The 30-year-old is a reliable player who has been with the club for six years now and has amassed a lot of appearances, along with getting promotion to the Conference with Welling.

A player like this would be good for Wealdstone, firstly for knowing the league inside out, but being reliable player who has hardly missed a game through injury in those six years. Only time would tell if a player like this would change the Conference for the Conference South, but even with his age, he would be good for the next three or four seasons at the Vale.

Moving on from the defence, we move into a midfield and a player who has played at old Trafford and was playing in League One only two seasons ago, Sergio Torres.

The midfielder from Argentina who came to this country 10 years ago is a tireless worker in midfielder and scores and creates goals. He currently plays for the money men of the division, Whitehawk so it would be quite a prize to draw him away from the south coast to north west London.

Torres however might sort out the problem Gordon Bartlett is encountering of finding a player who provides chances for the front two. Even though he is 33, I think a player like Torres would provide the same quality Glen Little brought to the team when playing in the Ryman League last season.

The last player is a striker who is currently playing for Dover in the Conference Premier Division by the name of Stefan Payne who was on the books of Fulham four years ago. A youth talent who failed to impress at the higher level in the Football League, he has rediscovered his eye for goal at a lower level scoring over 20 goals for AFC Hornchurch last year.

Wealdstone have been lacking a goal scorer this season. Connor Calcutt has come in on loan from Stevenage to try and solve the problem, but I think Payne would be the right fit if a permanent signing was to be made.

Time will only tell if any of my three selections come true, for all I know Gordon could be scouting them already.
