They say in football never go back, but we have to remember Wealdstone have always been a bit different.

Last week signalled the return of the cult striker Richard Jolly, who last appeared for the club in April 2013.

Jolly, who had an impressive goals record in previous spells at the club, could prove to be a key player again as the Stones look to move up the table.

The return of Jolly created some evocative scenes on social media when the news broke, and has created a buzz around the club.

Even though he did not get to play against St Albans, just seeing him sat on the bench was enough to have fans dreaming of a heroic return.

It seemed like a match made in heaven when this news broke. Jolly has now been married for over 18 months, was missing the game and Wealdstone boss Gordon Bartlett had been looking for a striker who would find the back of the net on a regular basis.

From all reports, Jolly seems to have found his hunger for the game again, which is different to his last spell at the club.

Jolly can go periods in matches where he can be very quiet but he has that knack of being in the right place at the right time to score goals.

He scored vital goals against Cambridge and Newport back in 2012. I imagine our Bartlett is hoping that Jolly can find players to link up with and start finding the net just like times of the past.

Compared to seasons of past, this season we’ve really lacked an out and out goal scorer – hopefully the return of Jolly means we have solved that problem.

It seems that if Jolly was going to make a return to football, it was only going to be with our club.

This is Jolly’s third spell at the club. Initially he was signed for £1,000 from Hayes reserves and if you asked a Wealdstone fan how much he is worth to them, they would say at least a million pounds.

The striker has never failed to find the net with Wealdstone, compared to his stints at other clubs such as AFC Wimbledon and Sutton United.

It seems with some players they get lucky at some clubs and leave for pastures new and hit the same form.

While there have been no details of the deal for Jolly, I would imagine that the deal is dependent on results and keeping Wealdstone in the Conference South.

It seems written in the stars that Jolly will score goals and keep Wealdstone up.

I think he could easily score 10 to 15 goals before the end of the season if he is fit and gets the right service.

Either way, Jolly will always be adored by Wealdstone fans for his performances and important goals in years past and general devotion to the club.
