Life at Death’s Door is the work of Ann Théato and Steve Spence

Brian Blessed is the star act in Life at Death’s Door, a new audio play produced by two Cricklewood writers.

Ann Théato and Steve Spence created the three-part narration about death, dying and bereavement to focus attention on the little-discussed subject.

“When it comes to death, we are bad consumers,” Ms Théato said. “Because we don’t plan ahead, because we don’t talk about it, we are in a state of shock and exhaustion.

“We don’t question, we don’t shop around and it makes us very vulnerable potentially.”

King-sized

Blessed, who is known for his hearty, king-sized performances on film and television, narrates the first episode. For the other two, Ms Théato plans to commission the voice talents of other household names who are not normally associated with the subject of death.

The audio play is produced by the Wireless Theatre Company (WTC), an independent production company that creates radio dramas, stories, comedy, educational plays and poetry.

Ms Théato has written plays for radio and theatre as well as two novels and also starred in radio drama herself, acting alongside Stephen Fry and Nicolas Parsons in the role of television presenter Fiona in We Are the BBC.
