Willesden CC’s Stuart Birnie smashed a club record as he claimed the silver medal in the RTTC National Championship 24-hour time trial.

Birnie covered a total of just over 480 miles – breaking the Willesden record by more than 20 miles – after completing the race, which was organised by Mersey CC and started in Cheshire.

It was also a busy week for Gill Reynolds who, despite suffering a puncture, recorded times of 24 minutes 41 seconds and 1:08:16 at the Ross Wheelers 10-mile and 25-mile events in Wales.

She returned across the border to ride the VTTA 10 at Leighton Buzzard and clocked a time of 26:49, alongside her Willesden team-mates Pete Cookson (27:01) and Brian Moon (27:58).

Cookson also completed the Cambridge CC 10-mile event in 23:17, while Reynolds moved on to the Oxonian 10 (25:56) and Peter Dixon (54:53) took fourth place in the Verulam 25-mile race.

Willesden’s Connor Woodford finished second in the devil and third in both the five-lap scratch and six-lap points event at the Welwyn track meeting on Friday.

Connor’s uncle Roger Woodford won the 10-lap scratch and came second in the devil before rain ended proceedings.
