TARA must settle for just the London title and promotion to the senior grade after a shattering 1-9 to 1-4 defeat by Lancashire champions John Mitchell's in the provincial final.

The London champions were on the back foot for much of the match, and trailed by two points at half-time - then had midfielder Darren Gallagher dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Despite this, Tara rallied and even led by a single point after 48 minutes when first-half goalscorer Danny O'Mahoney kicked them ahead.

But the lead was short-lived as the Liverpool team refused to capitulate, and after the influential Paddy Mulligan tied the scores from a free a minute later, they finished strongly.

The key score came from Daryl McConnell, who finished off the move of the match for the Mitchell's goal with five minutes remaining to put the holders four points up.

And man of the match Mullingan then crowned a fine performance with the closing score a minute from time.

Tara: Feeley; Slane, McKenna, Moriarty; Dunne, McDermott, Glynn; D Gallagher, M Brady; O Brady (O'Mahoney), Owens, Mulligan; E Gallagher, Donnellan, Murphy.
