FIVE youngsters from Brent Dolphins have been selected to compete at the National Championships next month in Sheffield.

Humzah Hussain, George Conacher, Sami Carling, Sam English and Ziggy Franchi-Webster are all year six students at Salusbury Primary School, Queen's Park.

The quintet scooped an impressive 10 gold medals at the Brent Schools' Swimming Gala and then beat off competition from a number of private schools at the subsequent London Gala.

They finished second overall in both the 4x25m freestyle and medley relays, with times of one minute seven seconds and 1:17 respectively after winning their heats.

Joanne Noble, Salusbury's deputy head teacher, said: "State schools rarely get the opportunity to compete at this level and we are now considering how to access pool time, additional training and the resources to get the team to Sheffield."

Benji Arthur and Aurel Sinko, also pictured - along with coach Peter Corr - also competed at the Brent gala. The National Championships take place on June 20.
