Winger Mo Taguri scored four tries as Kilburn Cosmos racked up their biggest win of the season, thrashing Pinner and Grammarians 57-5 to go fifth in Herts/Middx Division Two.
Despite injuries to key players – which reduced them to 14 men late on – Kilburn dominated the match from start to finish, outscoring their visitors by nine tries to one.
Taguri’s haul included a 70-metre run from an interception during the first half – and he topped that by dashing the length of the field to the Pinner try line after the interval.
Centre Andrew Hutt added two tries, while Kurt Shrubsole, Michael Huskisson and Peter Donaldson all scored once and George Brooke kicked seven out of nine conversions.
Fly-half Dan Boyle saw his last-minute kick strike the post as Kilburn’s B team suffered a heartbreaking 12-10 defeat away to Quinton’s second XV.
The Cosmos dominated the first half, but had only an unconverted try from centre Max Hudson to show for their efforts, and Quinton responded strongly after the interval.
A controversial tap penalty led to a converted try that gave the home side a 7-5 lead and an lucky rebound midway through the second half enabled Quinton to extend their advantage to 12-5.
Kilburn fought hard and second row Andy Butcher forced his way over the line to give Boyle the opportunity of snatching a draw, but his pressure kick bounced agonisingly off the post.
