Kilburn Cosmos were unable to repeat their group stage victory over Old Actonians as they lost out in the Browne’s Cup final on Saturday.

The Cosmos, hosting the annual pre-season tournament for the fourth time since its revival, cruised into the final with comfortable wins over Actonians, Quintin and Hammersmith and Fulham.

Ironically, their toughest challenge came from Kilburn’s second XV – who lost all of their games against higher league opposition, but were in no way embarrassed – as the first team eventually laboured to a 17-0 win.

But, with the Cosmos lacking fluency and depleted by injuries in the final, Actonians triumphed 15-0 to claim the trophy.

Kilburn’s ladies’ team secured the club’s first silverware of the new season as they overcame Southampton Ladies to win the Hoskins Trophy earlier in the day.
