Herts/Middlesex One: Hendon 17 Hitchin 31

Hendon slipped to a third straight loss in Herts/Middlesex One after going down 31-17 at home to Hitchin.

The Greelands Lane club scored the opening try when Chris Kiyingi crossed from the back of a maul, with Cian Hynes converting.

Hitchin were soon back into attack and a strong defence stopped them short with Ben Gold excelling.

Hendon were let off when Hitchin, having crossed the try line were then penalised.

That allowed the Greelands Lane club to run the pitch and gave Donal O’Sullivan the opportunity to score, but he was pushed into touch by the Hitchin defence.

Hendon continued to press and were soon awarded a penalty which Hynes successfully kicked to hand the hosts a 10-0 lead with nearly half an hour played.

Hitchin, however, produced a storming end to the half to score two penalties and an unconverted try to lead 11-10 at the interval.

The visitors then added to their lead early in the second half with a penalty, before Hendon regained their advantage when Will Theaker scored a try that Hynes converted.

That proved to be the last time the Greelands Lane club would trouble the scorers, with three further tries and one conversion seeing Hitchin triumph.
