Herts/Middlesex One: Hendon 15 Actonians 3

Hendon secured a vital success in Herts/Middlesex One with a 15-3 win at home to Actonians.

The match started well for the Greenlands Lane outfit with Mike Evans-Jones making a midfield break after five minutes, before TJ O’Sullivan carried over in the corner for the game’s first try.

Actonians piled the pressure on with runs down the wing, but after repeated attempts to score were rebuffed, the visitors cut the gap to 5-3 with a penalty.

Midfield play for the remainder of the half saw carries by Paul Julian and Gabriele Peraldo penetrating the Actonians defence that held out until the interval.

Actonians had a chance to draw first blood in the second half, but missed a routine penalty kick at goal after Hendon infringed.

From the restart, the home pack pinned the visitors in their own territory with Julian making the breaks through the middle and ably supported by new recruit James Meredith.

Midway through the period, Hendon mauled repeatedly from the Actonians 22 to be eventually rewarded with a try from a pushover out wide with O’Sullivan taking the honours.

Wing Will Thacker then scored in the corner following a maul to round out the score for the Greenlands Lane side.

Hendon tried to maul their way to the line again in the closing moments to secure a bonus point, but sadly to no avail.
