KILBURN Cosmos are delving into the past to launch a new era for the club this Saturday - and everyone's invited to their house-warming party.
The Cosmos are celebrating their move to a new base at Gladstone Park, Dollis Hill, by resurrecting the Browne's Cup, once a popular annual tournament in north-west London rugby.
Kilburn will take on teams from local rivals Wasps and Belsize Park, as well as Irish guests Garryowen, in a round-robin competition that forms the centrepiece of a full day of rugby.
The Cosmos under-14s kick off the action at 10am against Hammersmith and Fulham, with the ladies' team facing Hampstead an hour later before the Browne's Cup gets under way at midday.
Entry is free throughout the day for anyone who wants to see the action and there will be refreshments, including a barbecue, with the trophy to be presented to the winners around 5pm.
"This is the start of an exciting new chapter for Kilburn Cosmos," said club chairman Jon Trout. "We want to celebrate the occasion with a big day of rugby union open to everyone in the area.
"Our aim has always been to make rugby available to everyone in the local community, regardless of age, gender, background or ability, and let them know we're there.
"We can really take this on at Gladstone Park. I urge anyone who is keen on rugby - either as a player, volunteer or enthusiastic spectator - to come and see what their local club has to offer."
With funding from Brent Council and the Rugby Football Foundation, Kilburn now have new changing facilities and a clubhouse within a refurbished community centre at the Anson Road site.
Floodlights are due to be installed in the near future as the club's first XV - who have led a nomadic existence in recent years - prepare to kick off the new season in Herts/Middx Division One.
The Cosmos play a friendly at Hammersmith and Fulham on Saturday September 12, and open their league campaign at Old Grammarians a week later before hosting Hendon at Gladstone Park on September 26.
