QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand believes Ravel Morrison’s return to the club was a gamble worth taking.

The 24-year-old, who joined on loan from Serie A outfit Lazio until the end of the season on deadline day, is back for a second stint at Loftus Road after enjoying a successful spell three years ago as Rangers clinched promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

After a troubled few years for the former Manchester United starlet, Morrison is now back in W12 and Ferdinand is delighted to see the playmaker return.

He told the Times: “We know he’s got enormous talent. Sometimes the pressure of leaving a club like Manchester United can linger with you for a while and that’s obviously happened with him.

“Lazio took him there as they clearly felt they could do what Juventus did with (Paul) Pogba, the change of culture and environment massively brought him on as a player, but sadly that didn’t happen with Ravel for one reason or another.”

Ferdinand, who revealed the club have tried to sign Morrison on several occasions, believes the youngster is capable of getting back to his best under boss Ian Holloway – who has been impressed from what he’s seen so far.

Ferdinand continued: “I think he’s a good kid, I’ve always had time for the lad.

“He’s had a bit of misdirection in his life, but he’s still only 24 years of age, he’s had some life experiences now which I think have changed the way he thinks.

“He wants to get back playing in the UK, so it’s a great opportunity now for him to get back on track and it’s an opportunity for us to look at him and assess whether he’s changed and wants to do things right.

“If he does want to get his head down and give this a right good go, then he’s absolutely worth the gamble.

“He wasn’t really on our radar [in this window] but his representatives got in touch with Ollie, and it went from there.

“We’ve seen the likes of Stan Bowles and Adel Taarabt be mavericks at this football club in the past, and Ravel’s certainly got the capability to be another one of them, but it’s up to him now.

“It’s a loan, so if doesn’t work out it’s not the end of the world but I really hope it does as he’s such an outstanding talent.”
