QPR remain optimistic they can thrash out a deal for Bristol City winger Luke Freeman before the transfer window shuts.

Rs boss Ian Holloway told the Times earlier this week he felt the opportunity to sign Freeman this month had gone, having already had one bid rejected, however there is now renewed belief around Loftus Road that they can still tie up a deal for the 24-year-old before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

Freeman, one of Holloway’s main transfer targets this month, has made it clear he wants to join the Rs and has no intention of signing a new contract at City as it stands.

He has not featured their starting line-up since the 3-2 home defeat to Reading on January 2, with Robins boss Lee Johnson citing the reason for leaving him out of this squad due to uncertainty over the player’s future.

Rs director of football Les Ferdinand still believes a deal can be done in this window and is not thinking about the prospect of a pre-contract agreement at this time, which would see Freeman sign for the Rs next season, with his current deal running out this summer.

He said: “We’re certainly hoping to get a deal done before the window shuts.

“I always find this window very, very difficult because teams don’t want to let their best players go, and if they know you want them they’ll hold you to ransom for it.

“But we’ve got a week to go yet and we’ll be looking to bring in a few more before the window shuts.”

One of them is highly likely to be Manchester United Sean Goss, who is set for talks with Rs boss Ian Holloway later today after the two clubs agreed a fee of £500,000 for the highly-rated midfielder.

Ferdinand added: “Sean’s very highly rated and the mere factor he is even looking at coming to us is a real positive.

“He’s an excellent young midfielder and exactly the type of player we’ve been looking at. That deal is close to being completed.

“We now need to raise funds to go out and purchase players, so if we can bring a few in who we think will have premium sell-on value, like Sean, then we’re very much moving in the right direction.”
