QPR loanee Kazenga LuaLua has revealed how Ian Holloway was third time lucky in his pursuit of him.

LuaLua joined the Rs earlier this month from promotion chasing Brighton & Hove Albion, penning a deal until the end of the season.

And the tricky winger told the Times that this is not the first time Holloway has expressed an interest in signing him, having made approaches for the player when he was manager at Crystal Palace and Millwall.

LuaLua said: “He’s tried to sign me a couple of times during my career.

“For one reason or another it wasn’t to be then, but it happened this time around so I’m really pleased.

“When I knew of the interest from QPR I spoke to the Brighton manager (Chris Hughton), and he was very understanding and appreciated the fact that I need to go out and play some football.”

He continued: “The manager is a good man and his enthusiasm for the game is so refreshing.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity the club have given me.

“I’m 26 years old, so it’s important that I am playing regularly and QPR have given me a great chance to do that. I want to do well for this club and see us push on.

“I’m enjoying my time here and at the end of the season, if everything goes well, of course I’d be interested in that [signing a permanent deal].

“Everybody here has made me feel so welcome so it’s been easy to settle in.”

The former Newcastle United graduate believes he can recapture his best form during his time at Loftus Road.

“At the start of last season I was playing really well and got the player of the month award,” he said.

“I’ve had a few injuries since then and with the team playing so well, it’s been hard to get a regular run in the team.

“I know what I am capable of producing at this level though, so if I can play here week in, week out, people will see the best of me, for sure.

“For me it’s all about playing football and the more I’m out there on the field doing what I love the happier I will be.”
