QPR boss Ian Holloway says Curtis Fleming’s appointment as first-team coach was the “final piece of the jigsaw” in terms of stamping down his vision for the club.

The 48-year-old, who worked with Holloway during his spell at Crystal Palace, joined his backroom staff in December from Hartlepool United - where he previously held the position of assistant manager.

And Holloway has explained how Fleming’s arrival has helped him enormously, in particular on the training ground.

He said: “I can actually split up the day how I want to now. I can manage how I want to and break elements down.

“We’ve got the midfield department, we’ve got forwards, and we’ve got the back line.

“As Curtis is here now, we can segment it, 15 minutes at doing that or 15 minutes to put them all together.

“It’s how I want to manage. Getting Curtis wasn’t easy but I’m glad he came, so the lads can see what kind of routine I want and where we’re going.

“He was the final piece or the jigsaw for me.”

He continued: “Sometimes when you sweep off the top step you can be pleasantly surprised about who can step up from lower down in your club and that’s what Ryan Manning did and Furs and it’s a joy to see.

“Hopefully that’s what [Michael] Doughty can do. When he came off the bench [against Reading] I loved the fans’ reaction to him, he’s one of our own.

“And Curtis is a part of it, Birch is a part of it, the rest of the staff I inherited are a bit of it and hopefully now they understand how I want to work and what I want to set in terms of the curriculum moving forward.

“At first, trying to get a game plan into us was impossible. But the lads have listened and learned and put that into action and are now reaping the rewards of that.

“I’m very positive about the future at this club.”
