QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink heaped praise on Tjaronn Chery after another impressive display from the Dutchman as the Rs beat play-off chasing Derby County on Tuesday night - and insists there is a lot more to come from the 27-year-old.

Chery netted his seventh goal of the season - and third in his last five games - as the Rs eased past the Rams in a 2-0 win to move up to 11th in the Championship and nine points off the play-offs.

He told the Times: “I like Chery and enjoy working with him a lot. I still think there is a lot more improvement still to come from him but he’s doing very well and he’s taking to the English game more and more.

“This was his kind of game (against Derby). When two sides try to play through the two thirds this is what Chery is all about and where you see him at his best.

“If you’re going to have Chery in the team you have to play a certain kind of way, and you have to identify that and those games where he will play.

“You need to get those balls in certain situations where players can give him the ball and he can impact the game.

“Chery has got another two years (on his contract) and he’s only been here a year, so I anticipate he has a big future.

“He never complained even when he wasn’t in the team. He worked and worked and kept knocking on the door in order to get picked and I like that quality in my players.”

The victory saw QPR keep their faint play-off hopes alive, and Hasselbaink admitted after the game that he was still “dreaming” of a top-six finish.

He added: “You should always dream because that’s healthy. You should never lose that little kid in yourself.

“I think we played ever so well from minute one until the last minute of the game. In the first half we dominated with and without the ball and scored a really magnificent goal.

“We were solid and our shape was very strong. It was a very good response from the players (after MK Dons).

“We’re working at getting this consistency all of the time, but that’s doesn’t happen overnight. We have to keep on believing until the end.”

Elsewhere, Hasselbaink paid tribute to “Mr QPR” Clint Hill, who returned to the starting XI in the place of Grant Hall - who faces several weeks on the sidelines with a foot injury.

“Clint Hill came in and played the whole game with a little injury and was tremendous,” he said. “He’s got a hamstring injury but it didn’t look like it.

“We all know that he’s Mr QPR. We all know that he loves the club and it shows in his performances that he cares.”
