A MARATHON effort at Sunday's Welsh National Championship 12-hour event enabled Meurig James to break his third Willesden CC record of the summer.

James, who finished fourth and also took the novice award, covered 272 miles 367 yards to beat the previous club record, held by Digger Baulch, by over 10 miles.

Willesden's Gill Reynolds was the second fastest woman in the Reading 10-mile event with a time of 26 minutes 23 seconds, while Pete Cookson and Brian Moon recorded 24:17 and 28:40 respectively.

Pete Dixon was the club's fastest finisher and also won the handicap award in the West London Combine 25-mile race with a time of 1:03:05.

Chris James (1:08:53), Lance Woodman (1:08:46) and Brian Moon (1:13:47) also completed the course, while Richard Cooper and Richard Jerome rode a 2-Up in 1:03:19.

Meanwhile, Jayne Paine finished fourth overall in her final outing of the Omnium series at Scunthorpe, winning the pursuit and taking second place in the points, fourth in the 500m TT, fifth in the scratch and seventh in the sprints.
