QPR favourite Kevin Gallen discusses the club’s form since Ian Holloway’s return as manager, the emergence of Ryan Manning and Ravel Morrison re-signing for the Rs.

Hello all and welcome to my final QPR column for the Brent & Kilburn Times. I think there’s certainly a more upbeat mood around the place now, and the fans seem to be a bit more content, despite results not improving on the whole since Ian Holloway has come back to the club.

The football is definitely better to watch, and the emergence of Ryan Manning has definitely been a real positive, but there’s no doubt there is still lots of room for improvement.

I think QPR’s main problem is that we still don’t have a natural goalscorer in our team, as it’s been that situation for a year now ever since Charlie Austin left the club - they haven’t been able to fill this void.

There’s potential in the strike force when I look at Conor Washington and Matt Smith partnering together up front, but I can’t see us causing any serious threat to teams if we decide to go one up top, like we did for most of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s spell.

I think the club have to stick with Ollie long term and trust that he can bring the good days back to W12, though.

Bringing Ravel Morrison back is an interesting one. It’s certainly a gamble and it will take time for him to get up to speed again.

For one reason or another, he hasn’t really played at all in the last few years, so this is last chance saloon for him and he needs to grasp this opportunity.

There’s no doubting his talent, but whether or not it was worth the risk taking him back is another thing. We’ll have to see.

I think Manning has more than held his own in midfield and is probably one of our best players at the minute.

We need to get some points on the board now though and start being clinical against teams.

Huddersfield will be another tough test, but after a couple of disappointing results recently it’s important we get another win on the board quickly.

We’ve relied on Alex Smithies far too much this season, he’s been by far our stand-out player, and that in itself speaks volumes.

I think from an attacking point of view our build-up play is definitely better, but we’ve still got problems defensively and have been leaking goals.

That said, I’m definitely seeing a lot more passion coming from the players and management, and long may that continue. Hopefully the results will follow.
