HOOKS ABC youngster Josh Scott is through to the last eight of the junior ABA Championships after his victory over Hoddesdon’s George Bacon on Saturday.

The 15-year-old Capital City Academy student defeated Bacon 11-8 on points at Oxford and will return to the same venue this weekend for the Class 1 under-70kg quarter-final.

Scott landed two clean punches to open up a 3-1 lead in the first round and increased his work-rate in the second, although Bacon did enough to close the gap to 6-4.

But the Hooks boxer took the fight to his more experienced opponent in the final round, putting in a solid performance to secure his place in the national quarter-finals this Sunday.

“I keep forgetting that it was only his 10th bout,” said Hooks trainer Steve Newland. “But he’s got the strength and, if he can just believe in himself a bit more, he’s got a great chance.”
