Hooks ABC star Francie McDonagh booked his place in the England Junior Championship semi-finals with a unanimous points decision victory over Nathan Mizos in Kent on Sunday.

McDonagh, who is the reigning GB National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs champion, was in imperious form and underlined his growing reputation as of the most outstanding prospects in the country.

The Hooks fighter put in a decisive performance against Mizos, who was strong, determined and displayed real punching power to make it a entertaining contest.

However, McDonagh’s ringcraft allowed him to control all three rounds and he now moves on to box in the last four of the competition, which will be held in Portsmouth on April 2.

Speaking to the Times, coach Steve Newland said: “It was good to see Francie get back to what he does best, mixing his skills with his power and when he’s in that type of form he’s a match for anyone.

“Three top class opponents will join Francie in the semi-final draw so he will have to be at his best to win another national title.”
