Hendon could be set to lose left-back Oliver Sprague as he eyes a crack at the professional game.

The 20-year-old is currently on trial at League Two side Stevenage and Greens boss Gary McCann says he will not stand in his way if he can secure a move to the Football League.

McCann said: “I haven’t pinned my badge on many to make the step up but I would with Olly.

“He’s on trial at Stevenage for a few weeks and he could be going on trial at Brentford.

“Dagenham & Redbridge and Gillingham have also looked at him and have been impressed by what they’ve seen.

“We would like to keep Olly but we will wish him all the best if he can secure a move to the Football League.”

McCann signed Sprague from Northwood last year and the Greens boss has again been busy scouting other local teams, securing the signing of another talented defender.

He said: “We’ve signed Charlie Goode from AFC Hayes. He is a central defender who we have monitored all season and last season. We have decided to act now because there was interest in him from elsewhere.

“He trained with us on Thursday and was going to be involved in the friendly match against Wealdstone on Monday night, but the game was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

“He’s only 19 but is 6ft 4ins and has all the attributes to be a top player. It is our job to help him develop physically and mentally to play at this level.”

McCann was pleased his side progressed in the FA Trophy with a 3-1 away victory at Bury Town on Saturday.

Belal Aite-Ouakrim opened the scoring after two minutes but Bury equalised on the half-hour mark.

Lee O’Leary, who was later stretchered off, restored the lead in the 58th minute, before Aite-Ouakrim completed the scoring eight minutes later.

Hendon will face the winners of the replay between Worthing FC and Chatham.

McCann said: “I am really pleased to have advanced. The FA Trophy is very important to us.”
