Hendon were involved in another Christmas thriller on Saturday as they got back to winning ways against Wingate & Finchley at Earlsmead.
After sharing the spoils in a 10-goal thriller at the same ground against Harrow Borough on Boxing Day, the Greens reigned victorious this time around in a seven-goal affair.
Adam Wallace and Kezie Ibe notched doubles as the Ryman Premier Division strugglers got 2016 off to the best possible start, picking up maximum points for the second time in four league matches.
Freddie Hyatt and Scott Cousins were in charge of the hosts for the game, with manager Gary McCann on compassionate leave.
After a cagey opening to the game from the hosts it was no surprise to see the visitors take the lead just before the 20-minute mark. Tommy Tejan-Sie found Lee Barney, who in turn found leading marksman Billy Healey and he made no mistake from close range as he guided the ball into the bottom corner.
Their lead was doubled not long afterwards, with Tejan-Sie again involved in the build-up.
The midfielder’s corner found Rob Laney, who did well to find Leon Solomon at the back post and he smashed the ball past Hendon stopper Joe Wright.
The 2-0 advantage didn’t last long, though, as McCann’s men pulled a goal back within three minutes.
Wesley Fonguck’s flick found Wallace as he broke away from his marker before curling the ball past Bobby Smith to grab his first goal of the afternoon.
The striker scored his second soon afterwards, which was a near carbon copy of the first as he guided the ball past Smith again.
However, it was Wingate who got themselves back into the lead shortly after the half-time interval, as Dan Brown produced a moment of magic to net his first ever goal for the club.
Sam Flegg’s clearance ended up at the feet of Brown, who took full advantage as he produced a sumptuous lob which floated into the top corner over a helpless Wright.
But Hendon yet again fought back admirably, with Ibe making it 3-3 as a clever flick inside the area beat the outstretched arms of Smith, before the striker was on target again with the all-important winner.
Next up in the league for the Greens is a trip to Brentwood Town on Saturday.
