Former Dale Youth amateur George Groves defends his WBA super middleweight world title against fellow Brit Callum Smith in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

The fight serves as the final of the super middleweight division of the World Boxing Super Series and will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

As well as Groves’ WBA belt, the WBC Diamond strap will also be on the line on Friday night.

The 30-year-old Groves will look for an eighth straight win in the ring, with his last two victories coming against fellow Brits Chris Eubank Jr. and Jamie Cox.

The fight against Smith on Friday will mark the first time Groves has fought outside of the UK since losing to then WBC champ Badou Jack in Las Vegas in September 2015.

Groves is not the only ex-Dale Youth man in action this weekend, with long-time rival James DeGale in action in an eight-round bout in Los Angeles on Sunday in his first bout since giving up his IBF world title.

Harrow weald welterweight Jez Smith will put his unbeaten record on the line when he faces Durham rival Anthony Hardy at York Hall on Saturday night.
