WEMBLEY'S bid for FA Cup glory was shelved for another season as they disappointingly slipped out of the competition at the hands of Witham Town.

They made the worst possible start by conceding a goal after just 90 seconds; poor marking from a corner allowing the unchallenged Steve Joyce to open the scoring.

Wembley then held out as Witham poured forward in search of a second goal, before they came close themselves when Jack Healey wasted two chances in quick succession, firing a shot over the crossbar and then sending another effort well wide.

The Lions paid the price for those missed chances as Witham doubled their lead. In the 33rd minute Sam Taylor eluded the Wembley defence down the left and his speculative shot flew past Dominic Cassells at his near post.

To their credit, Wembley persisted and almost pulled one back before the break, but the fully-stretched Mendes Valentim narrowly failed to convert a cross at the far post.

And the contest was well and truly ended just past the hour-mark, when the un-marked Niki Love fired home to send Wembley out of the competition.

Wembley return to action in the Combined Counties League this Saturday, when they host Horley Town.
