St Robert Southwell defended their Brent Schools Cup title after beating Wykeham in a penalty shootout in the final.

Supported and organised by Capital City Academy and Queens Park Rangers, the competition saw 20 schools from across Brent enter.

St Robert Southwell won all five of their group stage games, before recording 2-0 wins over Leopold and Byron Court in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

The final against Wykeham was played at a frantic pace, but no team could find a breakthrough, forcing the need for the dreaded shootout to decide the winner.

Giuseppina Carnevale and Sophie Kew both scored from 12 yards, while Natalya Barat-Marie saved two spot kicks as St Robert Southwell triumphed having not conceded a goal in the tournament.

“I am very proud of the girls. They worked really hard and have been rewarded with a champion’s medal. They are a real credit to the school,” said coach Joe Pascoe.
