RICKY German hit two late goals to secure a 5-2 victory as Brent extended their unbeaten run against Ealing in the Middlesex Cup.

Brent battled hard in near-freezing conditions and held the edge at 3-2 until the last five minutes, when the pitch began to thaw – and German turned red-hot.

The St Gregory’s striker had gone close to opening the scoring early on, but missed the target after a mazy run by Vinicius Alves (QPCS) had set him up.

German made amends on 25 minutes, creating the chance for Alves to tap home, but an Ealing through ball split the Brent defence on the stroke of half-time and a looping finish made it 1-1.

Brent stepped up the pace after the break and German was denied in a one-on-one, while Shaquille Preston had a shot saved and fellow Preston Manor student Walid Rashid’s effort flew over the bar.

And Brent finally got their noses back in front after German beat three men down the left and smashed a shot against the post, with the rebound comprehensively despatched by Preston.

Ealing drew level again when an uneven bounce fooled the goalkeeper, but Rashid restored his side’s lead again, tapping in the loose ball after a curling free-kick from Rio Beach (Kingsbury) had beaten everyone and rattled the post.

And German sealed the win, running onto a through ball from Adersh Patel (Claremont) and slotting home before repeating the trick a minute later, shrugging off three defenders and netting Brent’s fifth goal.

Brent assistant coach Gerhard Ampofo said: “The players showed real commitment and desire to work for each other. It was a great team performance.

“Some players would not have fancied playing in the cold conditions, but this group of players really enjoy their football and love playing. They work hard in training and are improving all the time.”
