QPR attacker Tjaronn Chery is relishing the return of fellow Dutchman Leroy Fer to Chris Ramsey's first-team squad.

Chery scored his first goals in English football on Saturday as he and Charlie Austin both grabbed doubles to fire the Rs to a second successive league win as the home side beat Rotherham United 4-2 at Loftus Road.

Fellow playmaker Fer, who was set to join Sunderland on a season-long loan earlier this month, only to fail a medical, is expected to return from injury in the next few weeks.

And Chery says Fer’s return can’t come any sooner, with the 27-year-old holding out hope that the former Norwich playmaker will stay at the club beyond the current transfer window.

“I can’t wait until Leroy is back playing for us,” he said. “Then hopefully we can play together in this side.

“I hope he wants to stay with us for a year, maybe six months, because he can be a big player for us and help the team go from strength to strength.”

Chery, who scored 15 goals in 36 games for Groningen in the Eredivisie last season, revealed it was the lure of regular first-team football which made his decision to join QPR an easy one.

He added: “For me the most important thing is to play week in week out. If you go to the Premier League maybe you end up sitting on the bench, you just don’t know.

“I knew I would play a lot of games and also win a lot of games with this team. If you perform to a high level in this league you can get a move there eventually, and hopefully I can do that with QPR.

“Every player’s ambition is to play in the Premier League and my mind is solely focused on achieving that here.

“After a poor start we are starting to show our true potential now and settling into the league, so there is no reason why we cannot aim to be near the top of the division.”
