Queens Park Community School triumphed 3-2 in a pulsating, end-to-end Middlesex Schools Cup final after a stirring second half comeback against Enfield Grammar.
Theo Alexandrou was the goal-scoring hero at The Hive, home of Barnet FC, with a stunning late winner, dribbling his way past three defenders before driving the ball past the keeper.
QPCS, who have seven Brent district players in their team, took the lead early on thanks to a wonderful lob by Albi Alexander after Ayuba Jambang had sent him clear with a ball over the top of the defence.
But after that Enfield largely controlled the first half with some impressive quick passing football, although QPCS always offered a threat on the break.
QPCS goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Abdul-Rasoul was named man of the match for a string of crucial saves to keep his team in the game.
But at half-time Enfield led 2-1.
The second half was much more even and after levelling through an Alexander free-kick Queens Park were ready to win it with the magical run from Alexandrou.
QPCS team manager Costas Demosthenous was beaming after the game.
“The boys rose to the occasion,” he said. “They showed great spirit to come from behind and both teams showed great sportsmanship. I’m very proud.”
