Chris Ramsey has confirmed Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will start for QPR at Brentford on Friday night, while Charlie Austin will be closely monitored in training before the west London derby.

Austin has been out for the last month owing to a hamstring problem he picked up in the 4-0 defeat at Fulham, with Emmanuel-Thomas leading the line admirably for the Rs’ in his absence scoring two goals in his last four games.

With that in mind Ramsey has no intention of dropping the former Bristol City man for the game at Griffin Park, with Austin likely to come off the bench if he is declared fit to make the matchday squad.

He said: “We’ve got nearly everybody fit for Brentford. We’ll check on Charlie today. He’s desperate to be back in the team but you have to get it right after an injury, so we’ll see on that one.

“Regardless of that Jay will start the game. He’s been fantastic the last few games and has really stepped up to the plate in Charlie’s absence. We can accomodate him in another area if need be so he’ll definitely be in my starting XI.”

Elsewhere, Ramsey believes his side can take a lesson from their last west London derby, of which they were thumped 4-0 at Craven Cottage at the end of last month, but says his side must be wary of the threat an in-form Brentford side can pose.

He added: “We can take lessons from the defeat at Fulham. We’ve got to make sure we’re more diligent early on and start quickly.

“All derbies are full blooded. We want to keep the momentum going from the last couple of games.

“We know Brentford are a very good footballing team. They’ve done really well over the last couple of years.

“We’re pleased that we’ve kept two clean sheets on the bounce. We hope to keep doing that because we’ll give ourselves a good chance of getting maximum points if we do.”
