NEASDEN made it third time lucky as they banished the pain of two successive final defeats to claim the London senior championship on Sunday.

The Gaels edged out Parnell’s in a scrappy game at a rain-sodden Ruislip to end their 11-year wait for the title.

They drew on their experience of the last two years’ heartbreak, limiting their errors to the bare minimum and choosing their shots wisely to build up a 0-4 to 0-2 lead at half-time.

The two sides matched each other point for point in the first 15 minutes of the second half until a Paul Geraghty goal gave Neasden the edge.

A Stephen Lynch point with 10 minutes remaining extended their lead to six points, but Parnell’s were not done yet and pulled back three points to reduce Neasden’s advantage to a solitary goal.

It looked as if they might complete an astonishing comeback when Dara O’Donovan broke free in front of goal, but Barry Comer charged down O’Donovan’s shot and cleared just as the whistle blew to signal an end to Neasden’s long wait.
