Richard Jolly’s second-half brace secured a home play-off semi-final for Wealdstone as they beat Canvey Island 2-0 to finish third in the Ryman League Premier Division table.

After a scoreless first half, Jolly broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, finishing from close range after Peter Dean had flicked on a corner.

And the Stones striker made the game safe with his second goal 20 minutes from time, pouncing on a defensive error to beat Canvey goalkeeper Ashley Jones.

The result confirmed Stones’ third place finish – and they will now host Canvey’s Essex neighbours Concord Rangers in the play-offs on Wednesday night, kick-off 7.45pm.

The winners will meet either Lowestoft Town – who struggled to overcome nine-man Hendon 1-0 on Saturday – or East Thurrock United for a place in next season’s Conference South.

Hendon duo Kevin Maclaren and James Fisher were both sent off early on at Lowestoft, but the Greens still managed to hold out until midway through the second half, when Michael Frew put the Suffolk side ahead and ensured that they would finish second.
