Griffiths notches double as Brent beat Barnet to secure league title

Brent Under-13s avenged their defeat against Barnet Schools earlier in the season, thrashing them 6-0 to wrap up the league title.
Dean Sylvester’s men went into the game knowing only a victory would do to clinch the championship, and in doing so would also have to beat a side who had inflicted their only league defeat of the season.
After a cagey opening to the game by both sides, Brent grew in confidence more as the game wore on, dominating possession.
Sam Langan came close to breaking the deadlock 25 minutes in, driving through the Barnet defence before striking a superb shot which the goalkeeper tipped around the post.
From the corner Barnet half cleared the ball to the end of the box, where Adam Abdullah was standing and volleyed it into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Just minutes later and Brent were on the attack again with Kieron Lake-Bryan causing trouble on the right-hand side, before finding striker Lamarr Newby in the box.
The Barnet keeper could only stand and watch as the ball flew past him and into the roof of the net to double Brent’s advantage.
On the stroke of half-time Lemar Griffiths was on target, beating three players before cutting in and curling his shot past the keeper for 3-0.
Sylvester issued a stark reminder to his side that, despite leading comprehensively at the break, the game was far from over, pointing towards the example of Brent’s 2-1 defeat to Barnet earlier in the season.
There was to be no repeat of that day, though, as Brent cruised to victory in the second half.
Skipper Junior Paiva scored with a sensational lob to make it 4-0, before midfielder Langan capped off a brilliant solo run with an equally impressive finish to make it 5-0.
And Brent weren’t finished there, with Griffiths grabbing his second to make it 6-0 and cap off a season to remember for the league champions.
- Brent Under-14s produced their best performance of the season as they thrashed Camden & Islington 7-1 at the weekend.
