The Brent under-11 girls’ team gave a good account of themselves in a 4-1 defeat to Barnet Nightingales.

The borough team were playing their first match in several weeks following a lengthy gap in their fixture list.

Four quick goals for Barnet in the first half saw them take the ascendancy in the match and they never looked back.

It was Brent, however, who scored the goal of the game when Molly O’Connor rounded out a flowing team move with a fine finish.

The borough youngsters kept at their task in the second half, but were unable to make any inroads into Barnet’s advantage.

Brent coach Patricia Taylor said: “I’m very proud of the way we played and the girls really put in a shift. They played really well and will improve with more game time.”

The under-11 girls team, along with their male counterparts, will represent Brent at the English Schools’ FA Premier League South Central Regional Tournament on Saturday.
