Greens look to end league campaign in style with win at Blues

Hendon head for Leiston in the Bostik Premier in Saturday as they look to end the regular season on a high.

After battling relegation last term, the Greens have enjoyed a highly successful campaign by comparison this time around.

After a fairly strong start to the season, Gary McCann’s men have always been positioned near the top of the table.

And with the season approaching its business end, the Silver Jubilee Park outfit have remained among the teams battling for promotion to the National League South.

Hendon will make the trip to Leiston after recording a 3-0 win at home to Merstham in the league last Saturday.

The Greens took the lead in the 11th minute when Michael Corcoran scored by Moatsiders stopper Ashlee Jones.

McCann had to wait until the 64th minute to see his side score again, with Ashley Nathaniel-George on target.

Two minutes later, Josh Walker was the next man on the scoresheet to round out a comfortable win for the Silver Jubilee Park outfit.

It was a fitting way for Hendon to finish off their home league games this season, having enjoyed a good record in front of their own fans.

The victory over Merstham was a 14th home league win of the season for the Greens, who had lost just three times on their own turf in the league all term.

That form is the reason why McCann’s men are battling for promotion to the National League South.

The Silver Jubilee Park outfit start the weekend in the play-off places and will hope to maintain their position come 5pm on Saturday evening.

Hendon know the best way to achieve that will be by taking all three points at Leiston as they chase the double over the Blues.

When they hosted the Suffolk club in February, the Greens earned a 2-1 win, with Josh Walker and Arthur Lee on target for McCann’s men.
