Greens beaten by Balham in cup on Tuesday

Hendon will hope a return to Bostik Premier action at home to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday brings a return to winning ways after defeat in the London Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

The Greens suffered a surprise exit in the quarter-finals after going down 2-1 at home to Balham of the Combined Counties Premier Division.

Gary McCann’s men fell behind in the 34th minute at Silver Jubilee Park when Arsen Ujkaj opened the scoring.

Hendon fell further behind just five minutes into the second half, with Ibz Olutunde doubling Balham’s advantage.

Oliver Sprague pulled one back for the Greens in the 55th minute, but it was not to be as McCann’s men missed out on a place in the semi-finals.

The cup disappointment came after a thrilling 4-2 win at struggling Burgess Hill Town in the league on Saturday, with Niko Muir netting another hat-trick.

The forward, who had a trial with Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers last month, scored his first goal in the 11th minute.

Town, though, levelled 11 minutes later through Jack Brivio, before Muir added his second in the 39th minute to hand Hendon a 2-1 lead at the break.

Muir completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute, but Brivio struck again for the hosts five minutes later to ensure a nervy end to the match.

Thankfully for the Greens, Josh Walker found the net late on to sure up the victory for the visitors.

The victory over Burgess Hill also saw a debut for new Hendon keeper Nick Hamann.

The stopper has come in as a replacement for Corey Addai, who has returned to League Two side Coventry City after being recalled from his loan spell.

Hamann will hope the clash at home to Dorking on Saturday brings out a first clean sheet for the Greens.

When the sides met at Westhumble Playing Fields back in December, McCann’s men cruised to a 3-0 success.

Goals from Muir and Michael Corcoran, as well as an own goal, helped Hendon to success that day.

The Silver Jubilee Park outfit will hope for a repeat display when they entertain Dorking on Saturday.

It will also tee Hendon up nicely for a home clash against Leiston on Tuesday night, also in the league.
