Wealdstone got back to winning ways in the league on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 victory on the road at Chelmsford City.

Stones boss Gordon Bartlett handed debuts to West Ham United loanee goakeeper Sam Howes, as well as highly experienced defender Jack Smith, who was recently signed from league rivals Hemel Hempstead Town.

After finding themselves under pressure in the early exchanges, Bartlett’s men stepped their game up a gear and duly took the lead on 15 minutes.

Scott Davies’ inviting corner was met by Jonathan Wright, who rose at the far post, and skipper Wes Parker was the quickest to react as the ball crashed off the crossbar, getting down low to divert the ball over the line.

At the other end Chelmsford reacted almost instantly with Rory McAuley’s close-range header going inches over the bar as the hosts seeked an immediate reply.

Ben Marlow also went close for City with a volley as the half drew to a close, but Bartlett’s men got an all-important second. Lee Sawyer was easily dispossessd in midfield, allowing Bradley Hudson-Odoi to power through on goal and rifle the ball home past Tim Brown.

The second half proved to be an altogether duller affair as Stones closed in on a welcome victory which leaves them 16th in the Conference South, two points clear of the drop zone.

n Harrow Borough lost a two-goal lead on Saturday and had to settle for a 3-3 draw away against Tonbridge Angels.

Despite dominating the vast majority of the first period, Borough found themselves a goal down six minutes before the interval.

QPR loanee goalkeeper Conor Hudnott flapped at James Folkes’ corner, gifting Tom Parkinson the simplest of tasks from close range as the hosts went ahead.

To Borough’s credit they hit back right away, with Marc Charles-Smith ending his recent goal drought as he scored from the penalty spot after Josh Webb was hauled down in the area.

Seven minutes after the break Steve Baker’s side went ahead, with Webb again involved as his deflected effort beat Anthony di Bernardo.

Harry Newman then netted on his first full appearance for the visitors as they went 3-1 ahead, within touching distance of a welcome three points on the road.

However, that deficit was halved almost instantly as Luke Blewden bundled home the ball from close range, and Luke Allen then grabbed a late goal to earn the hosts a share of the spoils in a thrilling encounter at the Longmead Stadium.
