ANDY Fooks returned from injury to finish 11th and guide Thames Valley Harriers to fifth place overall in the Middlesex Championships at Ruislip.

Fooks (pictured) ploughed through the mud to finish in 44 minutes 44 seconds, almost two minutes ahead of team-mate Manuel da Silva in 24th (46:40).

Ash Khan was the third TVH finisher in 38th (48:27), followed by Steve Norris (44th, 49:18), Bernie Robbins (58th, 51:30), Phil Wetton (61st, 51:49), Richard Bell (78th, 55:20), Peter Hill (82nd, 56:18) and Simon Maddison (91st, 59:05).

TVH were unable to field a full team in the senior women's race, but Lisa da Silva shone nevertheless, finishing third in exactly 34 minutes.

Despite the muddy conditions, Diana Kennedy ran well to finish 11th (36:31), with Tracy Barlow 23rd (39:02) and Aneta Jaskulska the club's lone finisher in the under-15 race, taking 17th spot (18:49).

TVH's best team performance came from the under-13 boys, who won the silver medal - and missed out on gold by just a single point - after Louis Marriott (12:08) and Archie St Aubyn (12:14) led them home in eighth and ninth respectively.

Newcomer Joe Gilbert was next in 16th (12:55) and, although Joe Cooper had an off day, finishing 21st (13:05), 11-year-old Abraham Mendes da Costa beat several older runners to finish 25th (13:12).

There were bronze medals for the under-20 men, with Mohamud Adaan taking the individual silver medal in 28:58, backed up by Ali Yahya in 11th (32:15) and Sean Pike-Loche in 15th (34.59).

The under-15 boys took fourth place overall, led by Hugo Cayssials in seventh (14:23), with James Murdoch 10th (14:32). They were followed by Kyle Kenrick (28th, 17:17), Zewede Hamid (31st, 18:03), Nabil Toumi (33rd, 18:38), Sam Cooper (34th, 20:15) and Balal Toumi (35th, 23:21).

In the under-13 girls' event, 11-year-old Eve Goodhart finished second (13:01), with Eugenia Klemos (23rd, 15:03) and Annabel Morgan (26th, 15:19) ensuring fifth place for TVH.
