Bostik Premier Greens travel to U’s of the National League in second round

Hendon hope they can spring a surprise in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday when they visit National League high-flyers Sutton United.

The Greens head to Gander Green Lane hoping to progress in the competition and earn £7,000 in prize money in the process.

Gary McCann’s men will hope they can return to winning ways in the cup tie, having suffered a defeat in midweek.

On Tuesday, Hendon exited the Velocity Trophy after losing 3-1 at home to Bostik South club Corinthian Casuals in the quarter-finals.

Despite Niko Muir converting a penalty in the 40th minute for his 30th goal of the season, the Greens suffered a surprise loss.

The defeat, though, did see debuts for Liam Gordon and Joe White after the pair joined on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge of the National League.

The youngsters have moved to Silver Jubilee Park until February 9, and Daggers first-team coach Darren Currie believes the youngsters will benefit from the loan spell.

“It will be good for both to get out on loan. ‘Whitey’ had been out for three or four weeks with an injury, so he needs game time. The best thing he can do is play,” he said.

“With Liam, he had a spell with (National League South club) Whitehawk where he impressed everyone.

“It was good for his development that he was at that level, but now he has a different experience to enjoy as he’s gone to a team that is flying high.

“It will be a different type of changing room that he’ll be in and it will add to his development.

“They are two young boys who we have high hopes for. They’re good lads and we wish them well.”

Ahead of Saturday’s clash, 48 places split Hendon and Sutton, but the Greens will hope to overcome that gulf in south London.
