Shepherd’s Bush captain Jack Brydon led his team to a six- wicket victory against Harrow St Mary’s – inspired by Ed Morse who recorded figures of 7-41.
The 10 points moved Bush up one place to second in the table and Brydon hopes his side can maintain their good start to the season.
He said: “I was looking for a big reaction after a disappointing performance against Hornsey the previous week and I’m delighted to say that we got this against HSM.
“Even though we lost the toss I was hoping to bowl first and keep HSM to a manageable total.
“We were able to do this thanks to an excellent bowling performance. Chief protagonist was Ed Morse, who bowled brilliantly with figures of 7-41 in 15.2 overs.
“He was well supported by both Will Speer and Ed Price, who bowled well in partnerships with Ed to build pressure on the HSM batsmen, eventually bowling them out for 83.”
Brydon added: “Our fielding was also much improved which allowed us to take some important catches.
“Small totals are never easy to chase and we did this with relatively minimal fuss, reaching our target four wickets down off 20 overs.”
Brydon took on the role as skipper at the end of the last season and has overseen the changes which have taken place since then.
He said: “The cricket club has seen some changes over the winter with the loss of club captain Sam Dishon, but we’ve recruited well with a number of new faces joining the club, which has in turn increased competition for places in all teams.
“I feel this can only be of benefit to the entire club.
“With another good win in the Middlesex Cup on Sunday at Richmond we want to continue going from strength to strength and ensure this good form continues for the rest of the season.
“This is a long season and a notoriously difficult league to get out of, so we want to make sure the early season momentum that we’ve picked up continues right the way through to September.”
It was a day to forget for HSM who were in trouble from the start – with Sam Blennerhassett and Ajay Soni only managing 12 runs each.
With HSM on 36-3 the pressure was firmly on the rest of the batting line-up to dig deep and pull out some magic – but it was not to be as Kunj Thakker and three others were out for ducks, with Jaimit Patel (9) their next highest scorer.
Tuan Hadjie (7) and Chris Brown (6) brought HSM’s total to 83 all out after 30.2 overs.
Next up for HSM is a trip to Hornsey while Shepherd’s Bush travel to league leaders Eastcote.
