Middlesex made inroads into Kent’s batting line up on a baking hot afternoon in Canterbury on day one of the County Championship clash at lunch – if, as the man on the mike said sagely, ‘you can call lunch at 4pm’.
The home side ended the first session 98-3 on a baking hot afternoon under a deep blue Kentish sky.
Former Middlesex batsman Joe Denly is on 26 not out with 27-year-old England ODI right hand bat Sam Billings on 16 after 28 overs.
Earlier the South Africa Sean Dickson fell to the Seaxes’ Zimbabwe-born Hilton Cartwright, with the right arm medium paccer trapping him lbw for five with the score on 16-1.
Heino Kuhn, who was given his county cap at lunch was next out on 46-2. The 34-year-old was caught by Max Holden off the bowling of Cartwright for 11.
Lewisham-born Daniel Bell-Drummond became the third wicket to fall 13 runs later as the 24-year-old was lbw to Cartwright for 17.
