BESSBOROUGH fell to their third league defeat of the season in disappointing style at home to Barnes on Saturday.

After appalling weather delayed the start of the match Bessborough were put in to bat, and they quickly lost in-form Phil Bush.

Rupert Thacker (49) and Sherrick Chavda (35) then brought about a Bessborough recovery, putting on 67 for the second wicket with some sensible batting.

After Thacker was dismissed club captain Chavda (pictured, below) and wicket-keeper Wayne Whitson continued to impress, with Whitson making 35 before being bowled by Ben Dougall. Bessborough seemed well placed at 135-3, but then lost their way.

Their final seven wickets went for only 17 runs as W Botha, Nirav Ghantiwalla and Alex Irani all went without making a single run.

Barnes began their reply in positive fashion with opener Tom Bruce playing some aggressive shots, and only Jay Chavda escaped his onslaught, bowling seven tidy overs for just 19 runs.

Bruce reached 71 as Barnes raced to their target in 31.2 overs, with only three wickets lost - Chavda taking two - and Bessborough ran out of steam.

Bessborough have the chance to bounce back when they travel to Hornsey this Saturday.
