Wembley’s Gary Corcoran lost his fight for the vacant British welterweight title on a Frank Warren show at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday.

Corcoran took on Peckham’s Johnny Garton for the strap, but was stopped in the 11th round of the bout which was shown live on BT Sport.

The bout was a great championship fight, with the two warriors standing and trading blows in the centre of the ring.

The scores would have been close heading into the 11th round, but Corcoran was beginning to walk onto too many of Garton’s blows.

The 27-year-old was hurt by a right hook from Garton, before a cluster of punches led to referee Stephen Gray calling a halt to proceedings.

There was better news on the bill for former Dale Youth amateur Zak Chelli, who beat Umar Sadiq in the battle of the unbeaten super middleweights.

Chelli beat Sadiq on points to make it four wins from four in the paid ranks.
