Brondesbury captain Adam Wilson hopes Saturday’s victory over Harrow St Mary’s will be “the start of something special” after they halted their losing run with a victory over Harrow St Mary’s in Division Two of the Middlesex County League.

Bron had lost their previous three games in a row, slipping from the top four into the bottom two, but they overcame a Saints side that sat third before play started.

“Saturday’s win was really encouraging,” said Wilson. “To do the double over Harrow St Mary’s is really promising - especially given where they were in the league at the start of the day.

“I think it has emphasised the fact that we should be winning more games in Division Two and demonstrates that we are capable of much more than we have been showing.

“Hopefully we can turn this win into the start of something special. With a little momentum, I see no reason why we can’t get on a roll and move up the league.”

Wilson (3-22) took the first three wickets and Buddy Mason (2-23) and Robert Nelson (2-31) kept the pressure on before Sam Smith (3-42) cleaned up the tail as HSM were bowled out for 155 in 45.3 overs.

Bhavik Patel was the pick of the visitors’ batsmen, notching 40 at No 8, but Ajay Soni (29) and captain Tom Pettet were the only other players to make it into double figures.

By contrast, Smith (23) and Tom Shaw (25) got Brondesbury off to a good start in their chase, and Hugh Gimber (48) fell just short of a half-century with the highest score of the match while Sasha Ward added 23.

The hosts had a slump in the middle order, losing three batsmen cheaply, but Charles Sorensen (17 not out) and Wilson (3no) took their side over the line in the 44th over.

“The exciting thing is that we were nowhere near our best on Saturday and still walked away with 10 points,” added Wilson. “We were good with the ball, making early inroads and we never allowed them a chance back into the game in terms of them setting a total.

“We lost a few more wickets than we would have liked chasing, as we did in the first half of the season at their ground - this game was a carbon copy near enough. But Smith and Shaw got us off to a good start again and others chipped in.

“Gimber and Sorensen showed a lot of character to almost get us over the line and others chipped in, which was really positive given we were missing Will Russell due to injury.”

Next up for Brondesbury is a trip to visit league leaders Eastcote. Wilson said: “It’s going to be a difficult game but we take a lot of encouragement from the fact that in the first half of the season we restricted them to 150 runs from 40 overs in their attempt to chase our 160.”
