St Robert Southwell school won their first trophy in 12 years after an enthralling cup final against Wykeham Primary.

St Rob’s (pictured right)started the game on the front foot, looking intent on netting an early goal but some determined defending and good saves from the Wykeham goalkeeper kept them at bay.

The pick of the St Rob’s chances was produced by Oliver Glimas who went on a lovely run, only to see his shot cannon off the crossbar, while Wykeham were fortunate to scramble the rebound away from danger.

Wykeham were relieved to go into the break with the game goalless but the second half continued in much the same vein, as St Rob’s kept probing for an opening.

The hosts soaked up the pressure and were starting to look dangerous themselves, especially from set pieces, but St Rob’s keeper James Cawley was in impressive form, making some good saves.

With time ticking away, St Rob’s broke down the left wing as Jakub Koba found Daniel Adu-Adjei in the area and he in turn fired the ball home to put St Rob’s a goal up with just eight minutes remaining.

As Wykeham pressed, looking for an equaliser, they were exposed on the counter-attack and their keeper did well to prevent a second Rob’s goal.

St Rob’s saw the game out to claim the Brent cup in a good spirited final which was a fine example of school football.

Elsewhere, Brent Under-12 Girls managed to claim a valuable point against a strong Charlton Girls side.

Midway through the second half Brent fell behind as a Charlton forward kept her composure to finish well when one on one with Chloe Angell.

With just three minutes remaining, Jada Pollendine worked some magic as, when surrounded by Charlton players, she managed to pick out Tyanna Tulloch with a low cross.

Brent’s top scorer was in the right place at the right time and made no mistake in diverting the ball into the back of the net to earn her side a well-fought point.
