Brent Under-14s returned to winning ways as star striker Dominic D’Souza’s hat-trick inspired a 5-2 win at Haringey.

Brent stated their intent early as Drillon Krasniqi and Felix Amoah both saw their dangerous efforts go wide of the Haringey goal.

It was an ominous sign as Brent found the breakthrough soon afterwards when D’Souza beat a defender and crossed for Saul Mensah, who found the net with a clever finish.

Brent survived a dangerous Haringey attack, which just cleared the crossbar, and then proceeded to punish their opponents in the 12th minute.

A lovely pass from Tommy Lathi picked out D’Souza, who impeccably found the top right-hand corner with a left footed effort from all of 25 yards out.

Midway through the second half, Haringey applied the pressure and were unlucky not to score as Brent cleared the ball off their goal line after a dangerous corner caused chaos.

Haringey did pull a goal back in the 23rd minute of this all-action game with a shot from just outside the Brent box which crept into the bottom right-hand corner.

However, Brent restored their two-goal lead just six minutes later as Krasniqi chased down a loose ball and from outside the area, produced an unstoppable shot with his left foot which sailed past the keeper.

Just a minute later Haringey again fought back, this time scoring from the penalty spot to make the score 3-2, and they were unlucky not to equalise three minutes before half-time as Kahlil Francis cleared another effort off the Brent line.

Haringey started the second half strongly, sensing there was an opportunity to shift the momentum, but Brent keeper Elvis Taylor held firm and made some good saves.

Brent afforded themselves some much-needed breathing space in the 43rd minute as Krasniqi released D’Souza, who carried the ball for 20 yards before again finding the back of the net with his left foot from just outside the Haringey box.

Taylor continued to produce some fine saves in the Brent goal, doing particularly well to tip a good Haringey effort over the bar.

Krasniqi then turned provider again as he split the Haringey defence open with a fine pass in the 53rd minute to send D’Souza through on goal. D’Souza smashed the ball home to bag himself a hat-trick and secure the 5-2 win for Brent.

There was still time for Taylor to make a good save, this time blocking well with his legs to maintain Brent’s three-goal lead.

That lead was later contentiously restricted to three as Mensah was unlucky to have an effort ruled out for offside.

The victory gets the Under-14s back to winning ways, as they went into the game on the back of a few disappointing results, and they will now look to finish the season on a high note.

This is the second piece of silverware that the team have won in an action-packed campaign to date.

The triumphant girls won five, lost one and conceded just a solitary goal in a tournament where the standard of play was very high.

Elsewhere, Brent Under-15 boys fell to defeat on the road at Haringey.

The visitors missed a hatful of chances to kill off the game at 2-1, eventually going down 5-3.

They will have a chance to avenge the defeat quickly, as they host the same opposition on Saturday.
