Powerday Hooks prospect Eddie Barrett suffered defeat in the London ABA Elite lightweight final.

Barrett took on Islington rival Shaun Thomas in the final, which took place at the Royal National Hotel in Russell Square.

A close fought first round saw the Hooks boxer pick sharp, fast jabs against Thomas, who hails from Australia.

Southpaw Barrett was just too quick with both hand and foot for Thomas in the second round, scoring freely.

The high work rate took its toll on Barrett’s stamina as he faded in the third, with Thomas taking the victory on points.

“Eddie can be proud of reaching the London Elite ABA final with two good wins and contesting a very close final in his first contests as a senior,” said Hooks coach Steve Newland.

“Eddie has exceptional skill and speed; if he commits himself to hard work in the gym, there is no limit to what he can achieve.”
