Hammersmith super middleweight will meet fellow Brit in World Boxing Super Series in autumn

Hammersmith’s WBA world super middleweight champion George Groves will make the first defence of his title against Jamie Cox later this year.

Groves will take on the Swindon fighter, who has won all of his 22 fights, as part of the World Boxing Super Series, which starts in the autumn.

The tournament features eight fighters, all of whom will receive a seven-figure purse, with the meeting between Groves and Cox due to be a quarter-final clash.

Groves’ fight with Cox has been pencilled in for October 14, with the bout due to take place at London’s O2 Arena.

It will be a tough ask for Cox, who has been in the ring with the world class talent that Groves has been in his career.

Should Groves beat Cox, then he will meet the victor of the clash between fellow Brit Chris Eubank Jr. and Turkey’s Avni Yildirim in the semi-finals.

West Brompton super lightweight Sohail Ahmad fights at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday.
